It is with enthusiasm that I support Brian Barefoot for Indian River County School Board.
We live in a time of significant challenges with education. The demand for educated and experienced board members could not be greater. Brian Barefoot will bring his vision, expertise, and dedication to our public schools.
Brian’s 30+ years of successful business and education experience are unmatched in this race. He brings a leadership perspective that is open, resourceful and solutions based, which is needed to help bring back academic respectability to our county.
Please join me in voting for BRIAN BAREFOOT on August 18.
It is such an honor to endorse Brian Barefoot for the District 5 seat on the Indian River County School Board. Brian is the epitome of a leader, the consummate professional, the definition of integrity and, most importantly, a true public servant.
How do I know? As Senior Manager for External Affairs for Florida Power and Light Company, I had the incredibly good fortune to work with Brian Barefoot, then Mayor of Indian River Shores, for the better part of a decade to complete the sale of Vero Beach Electric to FPL. It was in large part due to Brian’s unwavering commitment to his constituents and to all the residents of Indian River County, no matter the politics or the nonsense, that residents today are collectively saving millions of dollars and enjoying the highest reliability and hurricane protection in the state.
I’ve since retired from FPL to enjoy time with my school age grandchildren and there is no one I would rather have on the School Boards in their counties than Brian to shape the future of their school systems.
Brian is the ultimate problem solver, an excellent listener and collaborator, and his vast business and educational experience will once again serve Indian River County well. As they say, “Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth!” If you look closely at the choices, there is no question there is only one choice: Brian Barefoot!

It is a honor for me to endorse Brian Barefoot for the Indian River County School Board District Five Seat. Brian is the serious candidate who is ready to roll-up his shirt sleeves to partner in the work of transforming our school system. With his 30+ years in the financial sector, his tenure as President of Babson College, his volunteer and public service to our community, Brian is a proven leader who knows how to get things done, and done well. Please join me on August 18th and vote for Brian Barefoot.
I have known Brian Barefoot for 11 years now, as he served on the Saint Edward’s School Board of Trustees for 6 years. In that time, he helped guide our School through a strategic process of financial recovery, and through a significant endowment growth and investment strategy, all the while using his thoughtful, insightful and sage wisdom through his experience and acumen in the financial and educational worlds. He has a great deal more to offer any community, and would be an asset to a Board or an institution that is serious about improvement, growth, and supporting the lives of young people. Therefore I’m endorsing Brian Barefoot for Indian River County School Board, District 5.
Dr. Stephen J. Faherty
Brian was Mayor of Indian River Shores where he and led the litigation effort by the Shores against the City to push for the $ 185 Million sale of Vero Beach electric. The whole mediation, discussion, and litigation processes with the City revealed the City’s true desire to hold onto the utility as it produced about $7.4 Million each year for the City’s Budget. About 27% of the City’s budget was being supported by customers outside the City!
He has a BS degree from Babson College and an MBA from Pace University. He spent more than 30 years in financial services in senior Executive positions at Merrill Lynch and at PaineWebber. He served as Trustee for seven years at Babson College in the Boston area and then as its President for seven years. The college had a significant annual budget and endowment which Brian managed using his extensive financial background.
He has been on the Board of Trustees of numerous educational institutions at multiple levels of education including our own St. Edwards School. Brian also serves as Vice Chair of Cleveland Clinic Indian River Foundation. He is a listener and comes well prepared for meetings.
Brian is a successful past mayor of IRS as well as a successful financial advisor and entrepreneur. Brian’s experience is unmatched by any other candidate to the IRCSB, including seven years serving as President of Massachusetts based Babson College. Brian has earned my complete confidence in his ability to be THE choice for our School Board, and his resume backs that up.
BRIAN BAREFOOT FOR SCHOOL BOARD, DISTRICT 5
Ben Franklin said, “An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest.”
Electing Brian Barefoot to the Indian River County School Board in 2020 is one of the best investments all residents in our county could make. As President Emeritus of Babson College and, locally, having served as a member of the St. Edward’s School Board of Trustees, Mayor of Indian River Shores and Vice Chairman of the Cleveland Clinic Indian River Foundation, Brian is known for his leadership abilities, as well as thoughtfully approaching sensitive issues with a willingness to hear all sides of an issue before speaking.
I strongly endorse Brian’s candidacy. I have known Brian for twenty years. It is important for grandparents, parents, teachers, and students in Indian River County to know that Brian Barefoot will come to his first School Board meeting extremely well prepared to discuss, and to begin to implement, programs needed to make our school system one of the best in our state.

Indian River County residents are indeed fortunate that Brian Barefoot is willing to continue his long record of public service for our school board. He brings not only a wealth of knowledge, experience, and integrity but greatly needed leadership. There is no better candidate for our community. If you believe in the importance of education and the responsible fiscal management of our taxes, vote Barefoot! I am.
In 2020, one of the most important elections for the citizens of Indian River County is for a seat on the Indian River County School Board. This election is critical. It is about our children’s education, it is about our children’s future, and it is about the future of Indian River County. Our schools have been suffering from underperformance for years, and now is the time for change. The County is fortunate to have a new leader, Dr. David Moore, who has great experience and world-class ideas for improvement. Now he needs support from an educated, experienced School Board to start to make real educational progress. Our kids deserve nothing less.
Indian River County is very fortunate to have a superb candidate who has the education, experience, and management skills to support Dr. Moore. That person is BRIAN BAREFOOT. Brian is a successful businessman with over 30 years of leadership experience in the financial services industry. He has also dedicated much of his time to multiple levels of education. He was the President of Babson College from 2001 to 2008. He was also on the Boards of Kent Place School, a K-12 girls school; Burr & Burton Academy, a public 200-year-old public high school and Saint Edwards’s School here in Vero Beach where he helped stabilize the operation following the 2008 financial crisis. He has a clear, proven, and successful educational experience.
In addition to his business and educational efforts, Brian is a proven public servant. He is Vice Chairman of the Foundation Board of Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital and is the former Mayor of Indian River Shores. While Mayor, he worked diligently to resolve the Vero Beach Electric dispute, which eventually ended with the sale of the utility to Florida Power and Light. To accomplish the sale, Brian worked closely and cooperatively with all levels of government leaders — State, County, and local.
There is no individual more qualified, capable, and experienced than BRIAN BAREFOOT to be a member of the Indian River County School Board. I strongly endorse his candidacy and election on August 18.
Brian Barefoot has the intelligence, professionalism, and experience we desperately need on the School Board. As a mother, I am concerned about the quality of our schools and the achievement gaps we see in our county, which has very rich and very poor children. I'm also concerned about the additional difficulties the School Board will face in these uncertain times as the county figures out how to continue schooling our children while the novel coronavirus is with us.
Barefoot's corporate and educational leadership and organizational experience mean that he knows how to ensure the voices of all stakeholders -- students, parents, teachers, and taxpayers -- are being heard. He knows how to do the hard work of balancing out competing needs. We are lucky to have a candidate of his caliber running for the School Board.
I'm very concerned about who will be the next School Board Member representing District 5. I've gotten to know Brian Barefoot and I believe that he will not be influenced by special agendas. He's straightforward and a no-nonsense person. He bases his decisions on the facts and not emotion.
It's time that we get leadership that can work with fellow Board Members, the District Superintendent and the Community. Brian Barefoot is the one I believe can bridge the gap. So, on August 18, 2020, I need you to go to the Polls and Vote For Brian Barefoot. The School Board Election is an open election. That means, don't worry about your Party affiliation, just Vote for Brian Barefoot, District 5.
I am proud to endorse Brian Barefoot for Indian River School Board. Brian’s pragmatic approach to problem solving and his many years involved in education will serve all of our students well. His proven record of working through tough issues will be a good complement to our new superintendent.

The School District of Indian River County would be privileged to have anyone with Brian Barefoot’s background on its School Board. President of Babson College, rated first among all colleges and universities in the nation by Money Magazine in 2014 and during his seven-year tenure consecutively named No 1 for entrepreneurship education by U.S News and World Report. With total assets of roughly $ 750 million and an undergraduate enrollment of over 2,000. Not to mention being on the Board of Trustees of St. Edward’s School, his extensive business experience, his various contributions to the community we live in and being vice chair of the Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital Foundation. Vote Brian Barefoot for School Board, District 5.
